If you're like me, you do a lot of coming and going. In the summer, it can get really busy! I am actually looking forward to next week when we don't have to be somewhere every day! But that is the life of a mother, isn't it? Whether it be groceries, soccer practice, school, or youth group, our days are often spent behind the wheel going somewhere, doing something.
It is easy for me to focus on the destination, checking off the errand on my to-do list or making sure the kids get where they need to be on time. So often I forget that if I just look, the journey there can be just as rich.
I praise You, O Lord, the One who discerns my going out and my lying down. There is no where I can go from Your Spirit. There is no where I can flee from Your presence. (Psalm 139:3, 7) Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me (Psalm 23:4).
Whatever the mode of transportation, Lord, I pray that my family and I will walk in the Spirit, keeping step with Him (Gal. 5:25). Keep us from walking with the wicked (Psalm 1:1), but instead, help us to walk in Your ways (Ps. 128:1), blamelessly (Ps. 15:2) and humbly (Micah 6:8).
As we go, help us to make the most of every opportunity. As a mother, awaken me to those teachable moments along the way where I can share of Your truth (Deut. 6:7), so that I may help my children grow in their personal discipleship (Matt. 28:18-20). Wherever we go, may we bear the good news of Jesus with beautiful feet (Rom 10:15) shod with the shoes of the gospel of peace (Eph. 6:15). May we be ready, in season and out of season to share Your Word (2 Tim. 4:2), with gentleness and respect (1 Peter 3:15, 16).
Wherever we go today, we ask that you will command your angels concerning us to guard us in all our ways (Ps. 91:11), so that we may be salt and light to all we meet today (Matt. 5:13-16). In Jesus' name, Amen.
